12c Black (17). Large margins to clear, light gum soak at right, used with horizontal strip of three of 3c Dull Red, Ty. II (11A), large margins to in, tied by blue "Philadelphia Pa. Mar. 4" (1853) circular datestamps on folded letter to Paris, France, Charles Toppan correspondence (of Toppan Carpenter philatelic fame), sender's directive "pr Steamer Arctic, March 5th", it missed that sailing which arrived Liverpool Mar. 16, red "New York Br. Pkt. Mar. 5" circular datestamp, well-struck "TOO LATE" handstamp at left, bold "26" decimes due handstamp, London (Mar. 22) and receiving backstamps (Mar. 23), probably carried on the Cunarder Arabia, Very Fine and attractive, prepaid 21c for the American Packet rate, but carried by British Cunarder so 16c of the 21c prepayment was wasted
