Sale 1260, Lot 28, 1847 Issue, Local Posts5c Red Brown (1). Large margin at right, just in at left, worn-plate impression, small surface scrape at top right, tied by blue "Philada Pa. 5cts Jul. 25" (1850) integral-rate circular datestamp with second strike to right, used with Eagle City Post, Philadelphia Pa., (1c) Red on Bluish (61L3), on July 25, 1850 datelined folded letter to Providence R.I.

VERY FINE. THE ONLY RECORDED COMBINATION OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE WITH THE EAGLE CITY POST ISSUE ONE-CENT RED ADHESIVE. A MAGNIFICENT POSTAL HISTORY RARITY.

There are only two recorded 1847 Issue covers with Eagle City Post adhesives (Meyersburg census, Chronicle 156, November 1992, and confirmed in USPCS 1847 Census). The earlier is a March 3, 1849 cover with the "Sawtooth" adhesive (Scott 61L2, ex Gross, Sale 1041, lot 262, realized $15,500 hammer). This is the second cover, a July 25, 1850 use to Providence R.I. (Scott 61L3).

USPCS census no. 11015. Ex Hollowbush and Ring. Signed "Genuine P. H. Ward Jr.". With 2002 P.F. certificate. Listed but unpriced in Scott.
