Sale 1258, Lot 3168, Licenses and Covers$1.00 Blue, 1934 Hunting Permit (RW1). Affixed to Form 3333, clear strike of purple "Washington D.C. Aug. 24, 1934" cancel, "W.M. Mooney" at bottom, signed on back by owner

VERY FINE. AUGUST 24, 1934, WAS THE FIRST DAY THE RW1 HUNTING PERMIT STAMP WAS AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC PURCHASE. FEWER THAN FIVE EXAMPLES ON FORM 3333 ARE RECORDED WITH THIS DATE.

The earliest dated examples of Form 3333 with RW1 are from August 22, 1934 -- two days before public release. Only a small handful of these uses are known. They come from a group of RW1s purchased by artist J.N. "Ding" Darling, ahead of the public release date. Some of these were affixed to form 3333. This August 24 use is also extremely rare, with fewer than five known.
