Sale 1258, Lot 3090, Essays and Proofs: Large Die and Plate Proofs$3.00 1959 Hunting Permit, Plate Proof on Stamp Paper (RW26P5). Disturbed original gum as with all the examples of the stamp paper proofs we have encountered, large margins, gorgeous fresh colors

EXTREMELY FINE AND RARE PLATE PROOF OF THE 1959 FEDERAL HUNTING PERMIT ISSUE, SCOTT RW26 -- DEPICTING THE ICONIC BLACK LABRADOR RETRIEVER "KING BUCK" -- THE ONLY DOG EVER FEATURED ON A FEDERAL DUCK STAMP.

The Federal Hunting Permit plate proofs on gummed stamp paper are listed in Scott beginning with this 1959 Issue, and continue through 1983. While they catalogue less than the earlier small die proofs, they are just as elusive and the examples offered in this sale are the only we have offered.

Accompanied by a beautiful full-page colored remarque by famed wildlife artist Ron Jenkins (the artist for the 1965 issue, RW32), with central mount for the proof (see linked PDF). With 2008 P.F. certificate.
