3c Rose (65). Remarkably clear strike of grayish-blue Benedict Arnold's Leg in elaborate escutcheon fancy cancel of Brattleboro Vt., stamp with faultsA COMPLETE AND EXTRAORDINARILY SHARP STRIKE OF THIS FASCINATING FANCY CANCEL, DEPICTING BENEDICT ARNOLD'S LEG.
Before betraying the American cause, Benedict Arnold was wounded in the foot during the Battle of Quebec. He suffered further injuries at the Battles of Ridgefield and Saratoga, which ended his fighting career. A boot monument commemorating his pre-1780 service and his battle wounds is located at Saratoga National Historical Park, but it does not mention Arnold's name.
