1c Blue, Ty. IIIa (8A). Position 61L4, large to huge margins including "(Bo)ston & Cincinnati" part imprint at left, deep rich Plate 4 color with a light virtually face-free circular datestamp, appears to have breaks at both top and bottom (Ty. III) but plates as Ty. IIIaEXTREMELY FINE. ONE OF THE FEW EXAMPLES KNOWN OF THE ONE-CENT 1851 IMPERFORATE FROM PLATE 4 SHOWING ANY PART OF THE IMPRINT.
The Neinken book states "Stamps from Plate 4 showing part of the imprint are rare. Ashbrook states that he has never seen an imperforate vertical pair with the imprint..." (p. 277)." A review with Power Search shows we have offered three unused and three used since keeping computerized records. This is likely the finest of the used copies.
