VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE TYPE OF SPECIMEN OVERPRINT ON THE 3-CENT 1857 ISSUE. THIS IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED.

There are two different types of handstamped "Specimen" overprints known on the 3c 1857 Issue (Types A and F), plus a manuscript type (Type I). The Type A is rare with only a few known and this is the only example of the Type F we have encountered.
