Shanghai Mar. 20" (1869) circular datestamp, addressed to W. W. Wiggins, San Francisco, "PER UNITED STATES MAIL" straightline handstamp, "Forwarded by/Olyphant & Co./Shanghai/20 Jan 1869" framed datestamp and their red seal on flap--carried on PMSS Costa Rica, departing Shanghai Mar. 20, 1869, arriving Yokohama Mar. 28, then by PMSS Japan, departing Yokohama Apr. 1, arriving San Francisco Apr. 24--magenta "China and Japan Steam Service" oval handstamp and matching "San Francisco Paid All Apr. 24" datestamp, opened for display, Extremely Fine, the rare "20" numeral cancel was evidently created for the March 20, 1869, trip and only used for that mail, with 2001 P.F. certificate
