(1869) circular datestamp and segmented cork cancel on printed wrapper with "Olyphant & Co.'s Shanghae Prices Current" imprint and Cheney Brothers, Hartford, Connecticut, printed address, framed "VIÂ SANFRANCISCO" handstamp, "Forwarded by/Olyphant & Co./Shanghai/20 Jan 1869" framed datestamp on back, original printed circular with stamp still affixed--carried on PMSS Costa Rica, departing Shanghai Jan. 21, 1869, arriving Yokohama Jan. 29, then by PMSS Great Republic, departing Yokohama Feb. 1, arriving San Francisco Feb. 23--stamp creased, still Very Fine, very rare use and one of the sharpest strikes of this datestamp extant, ex John Sussex ("Opening of China") and Mizuhara
