2c Black (73). Tied by blue segmented circular cork cancel--used briefly by newly established U.S. Postal Agency in Shanghai, but in this case without a consulate marking--on printed wrapper with "Olyphant & Co.'s Shanghae Prices Current" imprint and Cheney Brothers, Hartford, Connecticut, printed address, "Viâ Marseilles" overstruck by red framed "VIÂ SANFRANCISCO" handstamp, with original printed circular datelined "Shanghae, October 16th, 1867", cancel actually ties stamp to enclosure--carried on PMSS Costa Rica, departing Shanghai Oct. 17, 1867, arriving Yokohama Oct. 24, then by PMSS Great Republic, departing Yokohama Oct. 25, arriving San Francisco Nov. 19--the three recorded covers on this trip are shown in the Frajola-Perlman-Scamp book (pp. 88-90, see lot 2042 for another), all have the same blue segmented cork cancel applied in Shanghai--Very Fine, ex Dr. Rorke and Drucker, with 1981 P.F. certificate
