Sale 1248, Lot 2001, Mail to ChinaSan Francisco Cal. 25 Sep (ca 1851). Lightly but fully struck circular datestamp on small cover addressed to Reverend Moses C. White in "Fuh chau" (Foochow) China, sender's route directive "Via Hong Kong", red "Forwarded by Nye, Parkin & Co. Canton" script in oval handstamp on backflap which has been torn and reattached, Fine, no rate marking, this unusual cover entered the post office at San Francisco, but was not rated with postage--evidently it was handed to a ship captain sailing for China, who in turn gave it to Nye, Parkin & Co. (Gideon Nye) to forward to Foochow--Reverend White arrived in China in 1848 and left in 1853
