Sale 1247, Lot 247, 1875 Re-Issue of 1869 Pictorial Issue (Scott 123-133a)30c Blue & Carmine, Re-Issue (131). Original gum, deep rich colors, choice centering with enormous margins all around, certified as sound at least three times but with tiny tear at upper right (see history below)

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARING ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE.

This beautiful stamp has a contradictory certification history. It was offered in our 2007 sale of the Odeneal collection with a clear 1995 P.F. certificate (realized $15,000 hammer) but returned after receiving a 2007 P.S.E. certificate stating tiny tear at upper right. It was re-offered in our Sale 953 describing a tiny tear and with the 1993 P.F. and 2007 P.S.E. certificates. The 2007 P.S.E. certificate no longer accompanies. Sometime after our sale 953 it received a sound P.F. certificate (no. 465591) stating "genuine with large part o.g. disturbed". That certificate no longer accompanies and the gum does not appear disturbed (either in 2007-2008 or today). Most recently it received a 2019 P.F. certificate as "genuine, previously hinged" (VF-XF 85). We leave it to the buyer to sort out the opinions but in any event this is still a beautiful stamp.
