10c Green, Types II/III/I (32/33/31). Positions 75-76/85-86/95-96R1, vertical block of six from the bottom three rows of right pane of Plate 1, including two Type I at bottom with characteristic full shells in extra wide margin, original gum, stitch watermark shows on bottom four stamps, well-centered, bright shade, tiny thins in bottom stampsVERY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS ORIGINAL-GUM BLOCK OF SIX IS THE LARGEST KNOWN UNUSED MULTIPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1857 PERFORATED ISSUE WITH TYPE I STAMPS.
Perforated 10c 1857 multiples from Plate 1 are rare in any form, especially with the Type I positions and original gum. The Ishikawa collection did not contain any Plate 1 perforated blocks, and the Caspary collection displayed only two blocks, neither containing Type I stamps. The block offered here was originally part of an irregular block of ten offered in the Sinkler sale in 1940. It was offered as an intact unit and also as a block of six and three other units. We have also identified an additional block of four which was originally adjoined this at the lower right (Positions 87-88/97-98R1), offered in our 2014 Rarities sale.
Ex Sinkler as block of 10 (Positions 66R and 74/84/94R removed), Neinken, Bechtel (collection sold privately in 1993), 1993 Rarities sale and Gross. With 1971 and 1994 P.F. certificates. Scott value $100,000.00 for this block of six
