12c Dull Violet, H. Grill (140). Horizontal pair, clear grills with the right stamp particularly strong, beautiful shade, bright blue segmented cork cancel (probably from Chicago), small and faint lightened toning in left stampVERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE PAIR OF THE 1870 12-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE GRILLED ISSUE.
Multiples of the 12c 1870 Grill are exceedingly rare, especially with a colored cancellation. This is a striking example with the blue cork cancel.
