1c Blue, Type IV (9). Positions 5/15/25/35/45R1L, vertical strip of five, mostly ample margins, slightly in at top and bottom, deep rich color and clear impression, tied by bold strikes of grid cancel, red "New Orleans La. Apr. 30" (1855) circular datestamp on folded letter to Turin, Italy, red "New-York Br. Pkt. May 8" transit datestamp, carried on Cunarder Africa, arriving at Liverpool on May 20, 1855, faint red French transit datestamp also ties strip, manuscript "17" decimes rate, transit and receiving backstamps, small hole at bottom left, Very Fine, a very scarce use of the 1c 1851 to pay the 5c shore-to-ship rate on mail to Italy--the few other strips known to us are used on covers to France
