Feb. 23" (1856) circular datestamp on gray folded letter to Rome, Italy, earlier strike of Feb. 20 New York 9c credit circular datestamp overstruck by red grid, carried on the Ocean Line Washington, departing New York Feb. 23 and arriving Southampton March 10, Havre transit datestamp, Paris and Rome backstamps, clear strike of red "VIA DI MARE" handstamp indicates routing by sea to the harbor of Civitavecchia, manuscript "38" bajocci due from recipient, left stamp light crease, pair with slight overall toning not mentioned on certificate, Very Fine, scarce use of the 12c to Italy, ex Giamporcaro ("Tito"), with 1999 P.F. certificate
