Margins to just in, used with pair 1c Blue, Type IV (9) and two 3c Dull Red, Type II (11A), pair from Positions 51/61R1L with left sheet margin, one 3c also with top sheet margin, all tied by light strikes of blue "Charleston S.C. 3 Paid May 25" integral-rate circular datestamp on cover front only to "General James Gadsden, U.S. Minister, Mexico", "6" reales due handstamp and "VERA CRUZ/JUNIO 4" framed datestamp, carried by the steamer Texas, arriving June 4, Very Fine and colorful, a desirable "complete set" of the three stamps issued in 1851 used together to Mexico and paying the double 10c rate, James Gadsden was a prominent diplomat and soldier, after whom the Gadsden Purchase was named, he served as U.S. Minister to Mexico from 1853-56, ex Caspary, Rust and Klein, with 1991 P.F. certificate (calling the 1c stamps Type II No. 7),
