1c Blue, Type I, Panama-Pacific Small Die Proof on Wove (40P2a). Rich color, tiny pinholes framing the corner plumes, slight toning endemic to these proofs but visible essentially only on the backVERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE ONE-CENT 1851 DIE PROOF PREPARED FOR THE PANAMA-PACIFIC EXPOSITION IN 1915.
In 1915 a limited special printing of 413 different small die proofs was created for the Panama-Pacific Exposition. They were printed on yellowish wove paper, and it is believed that no more than five examples of each stamp were produced. We have sold only one other 1c 1851 Panama-Pacific proof, which was part of a complete set.
