Sale 1242, Lot 284, Five-Cent: Off-Cover (Scott 12)5c Red Brown (12). Large margins, rich color and sharp impression, red grid cancel

EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL STAMP WITH EXCEPTIONALLY RICH COLOR. THE 5-CENT 1856 IS RARELY SEEN CANCELLED ONLY BY A RED GRID.

The majority of 5c 1856 stamps are cancelled in black, usually with New Orleans datestamps or New York grids. This is the rare (and beautiful) exception.

Ex Moody and Hall. With 2000 P.F. and 2012 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90; SMQ $1,300.00)
