3c Brownish Carmine, Type II (11A). Large margins to touched, tied by "New-York Mar. 4" (1852) circular datestamp on cover from Malta to Norfolk Va., endorsed "U.S.S. St. Louis Malta Nov. 8, 1852 All Well" at top left, blue "Spiridion M. Valsamachy Malta" forwarder's oval with manuscript "19/11/52" date inside, carried privately to New York where it entered the mails, additional blue New York forwarder's oval backstamp, answer docketing, Very Fine, though the stamp paid only the postage from New York to Norfolk, this is still a rare use of the 1851 Issue on a cover from Malta, ex W. A. Fox ("Renard"), with 2006 P.F. certificate
