3c Dull Red, Type II (11A). Horizontal pair, margins to in on left stamp, tied by light strike of "Sacramento City Cal. 14 Mar." circular datestamp on 6c Green Nesbitt entire (U14) with bold strike of blue "Rhodes & Cos Express Red Bluffs" oval express handstamp (Thomas RHC-100), addressed to Delevan Wis., minor soiling and edgewear, still Very Fine and extremely rare example of this express handstamp, the Thomas Western Express Companies book records only this single example (illustrated on p. 653), according to Thomas, James H. Rhodes purchased Hiram Lusk's interests in Rhodes & Lusk Express in February 1854, Rhodes & Cos. Express operated out of Sacramento, connected with Wells, Fargo & Co. and ran service north to Shasta, Weatherville and Yreka, ex Kutz, with 1978 P.F. certificate
