Sale 1242, Lot 246, Three-Cent: Territorial and Western3c Dull Red, Type II (11A). Horizontal pair, margins to in, tiny nicked bottom left corner, tied by "San Francisco Cal. 10 Jul." circular datestamp with large "Due 10" handstamp on cover to North Scituate R.I., back with illustrated mining scene depicting miners operating a Long Tom sluice in the river gravel with mountains in background, "Copy right secured by the Pledge of the whole Mining Community" at top and F.C.M. Fenn San Francisco imprint at bottom, stain on front and design slightly affected by wax seal at tip of flap, still Very Fine appearance and extremely rare, Fenn is the only designer who printed his mining scenes on the back, Gold Fever records only one example of this design--this is a second unrecorded by Kutz--with 1989 P.F. certificate
