Horizontal pair from Plate 1E, ample margins to slightly in, bright shade, used with 3c Orange Brown, Type II (10A), ample margins to just in, vivid color, manuscript "X" cancel on 3c only, all stamps tied by "San Francisco Cal. 16 Jan." (1852) circular datestamp on folded printed market report (error date "1851", but correctly dated elsewhere in report) to Providence R.I., sender's ship-name directive "pr California", couple small stains at bottom, Very Fine, an extremely rare 1851 Issue franking for the 5c over-3,500 miles printed matter rate (effective July 1, 1851, to Sep. 30, 1852), this is one of only two recorded examples, ex Piller and Cipolla
