Large margins to slightly in, just a hint of oxidation, tied by large "STEAM" handstamp with exceptionally bold strike of red negative "From Steamer James Robb" name-of-boat handstamp on Oct. 11, 1853 docketed folded prices current from New Orleans La. to St. Louis Mo.EXTREMELY FINE STRIKE OF THIS EXCEPTIONAL NAME-OF-BOAT RED NEGATIVE HANDSTAMP. The James Robb was running the Mississippi River when this cover was sent in October 1853. Shortly before this trip, Captain Carroll of the James Robb saved the steamer T. P. Leathers from destruction in a fire near Natchez Mississippi. Captain Carroll and the James Robb towed her to New Orleans, where they obtained salvage on the cargo in the amount of $18,000.
