Jan. 5, 1853 Hong Kong by (Coal Ship) Gertrude, Macao"

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARING 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE COVER SENT VIA THE U.S. NAVAL LYCEUM TO A RECIPIENT IN HONG KONG.

This oval handstamp depicting a full-rigged ship was applied to mail forwarded to naval personnel from the the U.S. Naval Lyceum in Brooklyn at no additional charge. In the case of this letter, it took more than nine months to reach the recipient.
