3c Dull Red, Type I (11). Large margins to full, beautifully clear central strike of Running Stag in Circle fancy cancel, red "Shelburne Falls Mass. Nov. 2" circular datestamp on buff cover to Haydenville Mass., stamp with minor corner crease at top right not noted on certificateEXTREMELY FINE. ALMOST CERTAINLY THE FINEST ON-COVER STRIKE OF THE RUNNING STAG PICTORIAL CANCEL OF SHELBURNE FALLS, MASSACHUSETTS.
This rare and early pictorial fancy cancel seldom appears as more than an indistinct blob. We have offered a comparably well-struck example off cover, but this is the finest we have encountered on cover.
