$5.00 Carmine & Blue (573). Mint N.H., wonderful deep rich colors on bright paper, mathematically perfect centering with wide marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS MAGNIFICENT MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE $5.00 1922 ISSUE IS GRADED GEM 100 BY P.S.E. -- THE ESSENCE OF PERFECTION.
Collectors seeking to build the highest graded sets of the most iconic United States definitive issues have been constrained by the top value of the 1922 Issue, Scott 573. Of the more than 520 submissions of Mint N.H. stamps, only two have achieved the perfect grade of Gem 100, with none higher. Looking at the 1922 set as a whole, the only other stamps still without a Mint N.H. Gem 100 grade are the 5c and 9c values (Scott 557 and 561).
With 1991 P.F. and 2020 P.S.E. certificates (Gem 100; SMQ $2,250.00). This is the highest grade awarded with none higher. SMQ is far too low for this high-denomination stamp -- the only other example at this grade realized $10,500.00 hammer in our 2014 Rarities sale. Scott value $180.00
