EXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS WITHOUT QUESTION ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THE 1894 96-CENT UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE. ONE OF THE GREATEST OF ALL NEWSPAPER ISSUE RARITIES -- ONLY ELEVEN ARE CONTAINED IN OUR CENSUS.

Our census of PR99, available at https://siegelauctions.com/census/us/scott/PR99 , contains eleven unused and no used examples of this rarity. Only three are confirmed as sound (one other needs to reexamined for condition). Seven have gum or part gum. The example offered here has the best centering of the three sound copies, all of which have gum.
