36c Pink, 1894 Issue (PR97). Original gum, rich color, light creasesVERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE 36-CENT 1894 UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL NEWSPAPERS AND PERIODICALS STAMPS. ONLY NINE ARE AVAILABLE TO COLLECTORS AND NONE ARE SOUND. THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST.
Our census of PR97, available at https://siegelauctions.com/census/us/scott/PR97 , contains ten unused examples, all with original gum, including one in the Miller collection owned by The New York Public Library. None are known used. Three are only known from old black and white photos. None are sound -- most have thin spots or creases. Six have perfs touching the design on at least one side. The example offered here is one of the best-centered examples.
