Express S.Frco. 5 Mar." double-circle datestamp and "Paid" in oval on Mar. 3, 1860 folded letter from San Francisco to New York City street address, endorsed "p Golden Gate", somewhat fragile and worn at folds, which is not evident from the front, still Very Fine with markings clearly struck, several recorded covers provide evidence that McIntire and Wells Fargo had an arrangement whereby express letters from California would be delivered locally in New York City -- this cover was sold in the 1956 Caspary sale with a 99L1 stamp affixed at lower left, but it was judged not to have originated and has been removed, ex Caspary and Golden
