Boyd's City Express, New York N.Y., 2c Black on Green (20L4). Cut to shape, grid cancel, tied by red "Paid/J.T.B." two-line handstamp, matching "Boyd's City Express Post, Mar. 30 2" oval datestamp on 1848 folded letter from Boston to New York City street address, carried by Gay & Co.'s Express, sender's endorsement and red "Gay & Co.'s Express, From 1 Wall Street, New-York" oval handstamp partly covered by Boyd's stamp (partly lifted and slightly creased to reveal marking), some wrinkles and creasing in lettersheet, still Very Fine, although inter-city expresses had been banned from carrying letters since July 1, 1845, letters accompanying freight were permitted, and this is a rare example of such mail delivered locally by Boyd's, ex Golden
