Feb. 11" circular datestamp on pictorial Valentine cover to Woodstock, New Brunswick, handstamped "Paid 2" applied at Houlton for ferriage rate to Canadian post office near border, "Woodstock N.B. Fe 11 1870" receiving backstamp, back of cover with similar illustration to the front -- depicting a cherub carrying a letter

VERY FINE COVER DESPITE THE STAMP FAULT. A RARE USE OF THE ONE-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE ON A 2-CENT FERRIAGE RATE COVER TO CANADA. PARTICULARLY DESIRABLE WITH THE VALENTINE ILLUSTRATIONS.

The 2c ferriage rate was applied to mail between U.S. and Canadian post offices located along the same contiguous border. Ex Coulter
