Forwarded by Hale & Co. from Courier & Enquirer Building, New York. Red oval handstamp (Ty. F29) with Collect box handstamp (Ty. C2) on folded letter from Canton, China, to Salem, Mass., datelined "Canton, 17th Jany 1845" with sender's ship directive "Avalanche", red "Wetmore & Cryder New-York" oval forwarder's handstamp on back, Very Fine, carried from Canton to New York outside the mails, given to Wetmore & Cryder, who in turn gave it to Hale & Co. for its northbound mail to Salem Mass., an extremely rare inbound cover from China carried by Hale & Co., Gutman records only two from Macau and two from Canton
