Statesville N.C., 5c Black entire (79XU1). Bold "Paid 5" provisional handstamp, "Statesville N.C. Oct. 2?" circular datestamp with additional "Deep Well N.C. Oct. 21" manuscript postmark on orange-buff cover to Eagle Mills S.C., fresh and Very Fine, a scarce provisional with only 19 recorded in the Crown survey, also very unusual with the cover originating in another town and posted in Statesville -- Deep Well (post office ceased to exist in 1866), Statesville and Eagle Mills are all located in close proximity to each other in Iredell County N.C., Scott value $1,500.00
