Large oval handstamp on back of folded cover to Houston Tex. with "1 Oct. 1838" date, matching "RETURNABLE 1st APRIL 1839" handstamp, originated with oily strike of red "Salisbury N.C. Sep. 16" circular datestamp, manuscript "25" rate with additional manuscript "Ship 31/56" (25c plus 31c Texas postage = 56c), Very Fine, Ricker paid the 25c U.S. postage and charged the recipient who had until the first of April to pay Ricker back
