HAWAII, 1885, 10c Black, Special Despatch entire (UE1). Cancelled by "Honolulu Mar. 20, 1895" circular datestamp and grid duplex, addressed to "Julius F. Buehler, Arlington Heights, Hamilton Co., Ohio", San Francisco and Arlington Heights backstamps, Very Fine, a philatelic use as this was prepared but never issued for postal purposes, still very scarce in used condition, according to Hawaiianstamps.com Postmaster Whitney expected to institute a special delivery service in 1885 and ordered 2,000 of the 10c size 6 envelopes imprinted with a Special Despatch Letter frank -- the Minister of the Interior rejected the proposed special delivery service and the imprinted envelopes thus became "essays" in philatelic terms, the envelopes were returned to the Treasury vault until they were sold to J. T. Waterhouse of Honolulu in late 1893
