A SPECTACULAR SET OF UNIQUE WORKING MODELS FOR THE BICOLORED SERIES OF 1875 TOBACCO STAMPS. THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND PUBLIC OFFERING OF THIS SET IN THE 145 YEARS SINCE IT WAS CREATED.
Until the 1989 Christie's sale of the Weill Brothers' stock, this extraordinary and unique set of models had never been offered publicly. It was part of the Philip H. Ward Jr. collection and inventory, purchased intact by the Weills from the Ward estate. Ward no doubt acquired the models along with significant portions of the legendary Hiram E. Deats collection. The Turner book of Revenue essays and proofs does not list this set.
An exciting offering of the 1875 Tobacco Tax-Paid models, available for the first time in 31 years.
