Sale 1219, Lot 180, 1861-66 Issue, cont. (Scott 67-70d)5c Brown Yellow (67a). Perfectly centered, bright pastel shade, neat strike of circular datestamp cancel

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. WITHOUT QUESTION ONE OF THE FINEST USED EXAMPLES OF THE 1861 5-CENT BROWN YELLOW IN EXISTENCE. A REMARKABLE STAMP AND TRULY RARE IN THIS SUPERB CONDITION.

Due to narrow spacing on the 5c plate, it is very difficult to find centered copies with the perforations clear of the design on all sides. The town datestamp on this 5c Brown Yellow is also very unusual -- most examples come with cancellations from the larger post offices (Boston, New York, etc.).
