New York N.Y., 5c Black, Without Signature (9X1e). Position 22, large margins to clear, intense shade, tied by three thick pen strokes, red "New-York 5cts. 16 Jul." (1845) integral-rate circular datestamp with matching "Paid" in arc handstamp on folded cover to Albany N.Y., docketing confirms 1845 use, one line of address removed with ink eradicator (possibly contemporary), Very Fine, the second earliest known use of the New York Postmaster's Provisional -- the July 15, 1845 EDU is priced in Scott at $27,500.00 -- this is a more affordable substitute and is one of only three recorded in the USPCS census from this second day, ex Weill Brothers and Farrington
