Block of 18 with selvage at bottom, each overprint approximately 18mm, few shifted slightly left, brownish original gum, few h.r. where perf separations sensibly reinforced but in remarkably intact condition, few toned spots, light horizontal bend in second row from top is barely perceptible

FINE-VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE BLOCK OF 18 OF THE 1866 5-CENT BLUE KAMEHAMEHA V WITH HANDSTAMPED "SPECIMEN" OVERPRINT. THIS IS THE FIRST MULTIPLE WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED.

We have previously sold two singles of this 18mm "Specimen" overprint (Sale 769, lot 3117, and Sale 1083, lot 1083). This large block comes from a collection containing material acquired in the 19th century.
