Stmr. Kilauea Hou, Hawaiian Mail Service, Oct 18, 1887. Bold strike of blue circular datestamp and target duplex (Ty. 366, Rarity 1RRRR) on 2c Rose entire (U2) addressed to Honolulu, "Honolulu, H.I., Oct 19, 1887" receiving circular datestamp, slightly reduced at leftVERY FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE "STMR. KILAUEA" INTER-ISLAND STEAMSHIP DATESTAMP.
According to Fred Gregory, the S.S. Kilauea was "an 806-ton wooden hull screw steamer built by Tibbetts and Sorenson at Honolulu in 1878. She continued in the interisland trade until past 1900. Until 1885, she was operated by Capt. Hobron for runs between Honolulu and Kahului. She was transferred to Wilder's Steamship Company in 1885."
