Feb. 22" circular datestamps and "PAID" handstamps neatly applied, due to its size we did not dip this but it looks to be in excellent condition aside from a small tear in the bottom stampVERY FINE. A REMARKABLE BLOCK OF 15 OF THE 1857 ONE-CENT TYPE Va. THIS IS ONE OF THE LARGEST RECORDED MULTIPLES FROM PLATE 5.
This scarce sub-type, Type Va, comes only from Plate 5. The ornaments at right are almost complete, and they do not have any of the scratches at sides that are seen on the Type V stamps. The largest recorded multiples from Plate 5 are a block of 20, followed by this block of 15. This block is noted on pp. 324-325 of the Neinken book.
Ex Hollowbush. One stamp signed Ashbrook and with his plating notes on two stamps "7R6" and "9R6", made prior to the confirmation that there was no Plate 6.
