Apr. 21" (1861) Independent State double-circle datestamp on buff cover to Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens in Richmond Va., subject docketing on back "J.E. Adkins, Point of Rocks Md., Movements of the enemy April 1861", barely reduced at top and left but retains complete backflap -- unusual for Stephens covers, fresh and Very Fine, a choice Virginia Independent State use of U.S. Postage, this was possible only for a period of 20 days, accompanied by a Magnus engraving of Stephens in carmine and black
