Plate 8-A, Type II (Westerberg Position 1), close margins but framelines complete, bold 9-bar square grid cancel, small pinhole in "OS", pen mark on back, Fine appearance, rare, the 1996 Pietsch sale catalogue (Shreve) reports "less than ten known" of Scott 23 in used condition, presumably based on Albert Chang's records, ex Honolulu Advertiser and Twigg-Smith, with 2003 H.P.S. and 2007 P.F. certificates
