Dec. 5, 1861" double-circle datestamp with "12" and "Ship" handstamps, stamp with light corner crease at top left, cover with minor cosmetic repairs

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A BEAUTIFUL TIED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT KAMEHAMEHA III 1861 THIRD PRINTING ON BLUISH PAPER ON COVER TO NEW YORK.

This was carried on the American bark Comet from Honolulu on Nov. 23, 1861, arriving San Francisco Dec. 4. Overland mail to the East Coast was postmarked in San Francisco on Dec. 5.
