Sale 1172, Lot 1007, 1851 Missionary Issue (Scott 2-3)HAWAII, 1851, 5c Blue (2). Crocker Type I -- the lefthand position in the setting of two -- barest trace of a red cancellation at left, repaired at lower left and lower right corners, minor repair at top with small part of lettering and frameline repainted, some overall toning to the paper, but still of good color and appearance

AN ATTRACTIVE UNUSED-APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE HAWAIIAN 1851 5-CENT MISSIONARY.

Our census of Hawaii No. 2, published in Part 1 of the Honolulu Advertiser catalogue, is available at our website at http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/HI2/HI2.pdf . This stamp was listed as 2-I-CAN-28 in the census published in our Honolulu Advertiser sale, but we incorrectly assigned another stamp (Sale 1075, lot 1232) to that census number on our website census. This is definitely the stamp from the Tows sale (lot 240), and our online census has been corrected. Of the 40 used off-cover examples we record of the 5c Missionary, more than half are repaired to some degree.

Siegel Census No. 2-I-CAN-28. Ex Tows (lot 240). With 1948 P.F. certificate issued to Raymond H. Weill, describing the stamp as "used, horizontal crease at bottom". The Scott Catalogue notes that "values are for examples with minor damage that has been skillfully repaired."
