Priester Type 52 surcharge, large margins to in, purple "San Jose Cal., Fredericksburg Brewery, 1898" four-line datestamp, defective including torn in half and rejoinedFINE APPEARANCE. ONLY TWO EXAMPLES OF THE 1898 ONE-HOGSHEAD ON BLUE PAPER WITH TYPE C SURCHARGE ARE RECORDED.
The Priester book records only two examples of this issue. The other, with Type 51 surcharge, is repaired and rebacked. It was offered in the November 8, 1989 Weill sale at Christie's (lot 659).
