1871, 33-1/3c Violet Brown on White Silk, -1/3bbl., Beer (REA24; Priester 24A). Large margins all around, rich colors, light strike of blue handstamp, couple minor tearsVERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1871 ONE-THIRD BARREL VIOLET BROWN ON WHITE SILK PAPER. VERY FEW ARE KNOWN, AND THIS IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE WE HAVE OFFERED SINCE KEEPING COMPUTERIZED RECORDS.
The Priester census records only twelve copies of this issue, but it seems much scarcer than that. This is the only example we have offered since keeping computerized records, and a search of our library found only one other, offered in the 1989 Weill sale.
