EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS IS BY FAR THE FINEST OF THE THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE $5.00 PROPRIETARY ON GREEN PAPER. ONLY FIFTY $5.00 STAMPS WERE EVER ISSUED ON GREEN PAPER. A WORLD-CLASS RARITY.

In his privately published census, Larry Lyons records only two certified examples of the $5.00 Proprietary on Green paper. The stamp offered here is a third certified copy, which may have been overlooked by Mr. Lyons as it was submitted to The Philatelic Foundation as a variety. Both of the other known copies of this stamp are repaired, and one is reperforated. This is the first we have offered since our 2000 Zoellner sale, when we last offered this copy.
