5c Red Brown (12). Large margins to clear, lovely warm shade, tied by red "Annapolis Md. Oct. 11" circular datestamp on blue 1856 folded letter to the U.S.S. Susquehanna at Spezzia, Sardinia, Italy, red "New-York Br. Pkt. Oct. 15" circular datestamp, "17" manuscript due marking, French transit, various backstamps including London, Paris, Genova and receiving, endorsed "per Cunard line" at top right and carried aboard that line's Africa, which departed New York Oct. 15, 1856 and arrived in Liverpool Oct. 27, missing side flaps, still Very Fine, only eight covers are recorded from this correspondence to a U.S. naval surgeon on the U.S.S. Susquehanna, ex Haas, Mayer and Hackmey, with 2005 P.F. certificate
